Job Summary
The Shipping Officer will play a pivotal role in managing import and export activities, monitoring inbound shipments, and coordinating outbound shipments. This role requires proficiency in customs processes specific to a transshipment hub like the Port of Tanjung Pelepas, and a solid understanding of international trade and preferential agreements. The Shipping Officer will work closely with customs brokers to ensure that all goods are declared accurately and comply with all relevant laws and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Customs Documentation: Prepare and manage all required documents for importing and exporting goods, ensuring compliance with Malaysian and international trade regulations.
- Customs Broker Liaison: Assist and provide necessary documentation to customs brokers to facilitate smooth customs clearance.
- Record Keeping: Maintain meticulous records of all import and export files, tax bills, and other related documents.
- HS Code Classification: Accurately classify goods according to the Harmonized System (HS) codes for customs purposes.
- Inbound Monitoring and Planning: Oversee and ensure the timely and accurate receipt of inbound shipments from suppliers and production sites. Coordinate container arrivals at the warehouse and provide rolling plans to the warehouse inbound team.
- Outbound Coordination and Planning: Coordinate and schedule outbound shipments to Blum subsidiaries and customers, ensuring timely and accurate delivery. Plan the loading of containers and trucks according to customer sales orders and optimize possible utilization.
- Liaison with Shipping Companies: Ensure timely delivery of inbound containers, coordinate, and request containers from shipping companies.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in International Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an import/export role, preferably within a logistics, manufacturing, or distribution environment.
- Extensive knowledge of Malaysian customs regulations, international trade laws, and transshipment processes.
- Proficient understanding of HS codes and preferential trading agreements.
- Experience and understanding in load planning of containers and trucks.
- Exceptional organizational skills and a detail-oriented mindset.
- Strong communication skills and proficiency in English and Malay
