Job Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough assessments of patients’ eye health, including medical history and current symptoms.
- Support ophthalmologists during surgical and diagnostic procedures, ensuring sterile techniques are followed.
- Provide education to patients about eye care, treatment options, and post-operative care instructions.
- Administer prescribed medications and monitor patients for adverse reactions.
- Perform preliminary diagnostic tests, such as visual acuity tests, tonometry, and other assessments.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records in accordance with healthcare regulations.
- Schedule follow-up appointments and monitor patients’ recovery progress, addressing any concerns.
- Collaborate with ophthalmologists, optometrists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and their families regarding eye conditions and treatments.
- Adhere to infection control protocols to ensure patient safety.
Job Requirement
- Must posses at least a Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (ADN or BSN).
- Current RN license in the state of practice.
- Ophthalmic Nursing Certification (COT or COA) is often preferred.
- Familiarity with ophthalmic equipment and procedures.
- Excellent patient care and communication skills, particularly in educating patients about eye health.
- Experience in assisting with surgical procedures is a plus.
- Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) and other healthcare software.
